It was only a matter of time. A coward drives a car packed with
explosives into Times Square and slithers off to safety while innocents are
left to die. What is most shocking
is that this terrorist and would-be slaughterer is an American citizen.
This is treason, pure and simple. One of our own citizens, someone our
great nation welcomed with open arms and afforded all the rights and privileges
his home country mocks and tramples on, has betrayed us in the most cowardly
fashion. I don't care about his
story. I don't care what drove him
to commit this spineless and thuggish action. I only care about justice.
The US government must make a strong example of
Faisal Shahzad to assure our citizens and the rest of the world that these acts
will result in swift and severe justice.
Faisal Shahzad is an embarrassment and abomination
not only to his adopted country, but also to the millions of peaceful Muslim
families who came to America seeking the religious tolerance our nation was
built upon. As a United States
citizen he deserves a fair and speedy trial. As a traitor to our country he deserves a speedy execution.
If the Obama administration is serious about
winning the war on terror this act cannot go unpunished. While they continue to analyze the
postmortems, the terrorists who trained Faisal Shahzad continue to plot against
America with impunity and no fear of retribution. These people must be found, and they must be ended, with our
without the aid of the Pakistani government. A message needs to be sent by this administration, and it
must be undeniable: An attack on
our home soil is an act of war, and we will stop at nothing to keep our
citizens safe.

Democrats are so concerned with America's faltering
economy that they are doing...nothing.
Absolutely nothing. One would
think Congress would finally turn their attention to creating jobs after
passing the job-and-business-killing healthcare bill, but instead Democrats are
now focused on another of their pet projects:
restricting free markets. There's
no question action needs to be taken to prevent the massive bank failures that
helped precipitate our current economic crisis. But the so-called "Wall Street"
reform bill is chock full of typical liberal Democrat over-regulation and will
cost the taxpayers billions of additional dollars if more large banks go
under. That's not leadership, and the
bill will create a total of zero new jobs (unless you count all the new
bureaucrats taxpayers will be forced to fund).
Meanwhile, millions of Americans are still out of
work and suffering. Taxes will skyrocket
to pay for all these new government programs, which will take more money
directly out of Americans' pockets, and yet Congress still refuses to act. The First District needs a Congressman who
will Put Maryland First, who will fight to bring new jobs into the district and
ease the burden of all taxpayers. Please

Paul Volcker, the chairman of the Economic Recovery
Advisory Board and one of the president's top economic advisors advocated
instituting a national sales tax to pay for the massive and unprecedented
amounts of spending this administration is planning. Yes, you read that last sentence
correctly. In addition to Democrats
broken promises not to raise taxes on the middle class, there is now serious
consideration to implement an economy-killing tax that will disproportionately
harm the poor and middle class.
The Value Added Tax (VAT) is essentially a
national sales tax on each and every transaction. It is a wildly regressive tax that will put
even more burdens on the nation's poor and middle class, erecting yet another
barrier for helping the less fortunate achieve the American dream.
Instead of working to reduce taxes and limit the
size of government, the Democrats in control of our economy are intent on
grabbing even more money out of your wallet to pay for radical and unpopular
programs that will kill jobs and further balloon our deficits.
This is just the latest example of how far
out-of-touch Democrats are. In order to
get our economy on track and stop economically disastrous taxing and spending,
we have got to take back Congress. But I
can't do it alone. I need your
help. Please join me and help me fight
for all Maryland residents and finally elect a representative who will Put
Maryland First. It's time for real
change in Washington.

In one of the worst days for democracy in recent memory, Congressional Democrats once again showed nothing but scorn and contempt for their constituents by passing the wildly unpopular health care bill last night. It's a shame and an outrage Congress sold out the American taxpayer, especially the middle class, in favor of special interests and the far left fringe of their party. Unless we can take back Congress, massive tax increases and lower standards of care await millions of Americans for generations to come.
What sickens me most is that the middle class and small businesses will be the ones hurt most by this irresponsible job-killing legislation. How many middle class families will become criminals because they won't be able to afford coverage even with government subsidies? And how many small businesses will be forced to close their doors after facing higher taxes and mandates to provide coverage?
It didn't have to be this way. There was a general consensus on both sides of the aisle for sweeping reforms that would have dramatically increased access to affordable healthcare for all Americans. But Democrats decided instead to pander to special interests and huge donors, resulting in an unconscionable mockery of democracy that featured blatant bribery and arm-twisting in order to pass this sham "reform" bill.
We need representatives in Congress who will fight for small businesses and the middle class, not special interests. Representatives who believe more government intrusion, massive bureaucracies and huge spending increases are not the answer to every problem. And most of all we need representatives who respect the Constitution and will listen to the will of the people, not ignore them and treat them with disdain. It's clear that Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Congress are hell-bent on passing their job killing, deficit-ballooning healthcare plan whether the American taxpayers want it or not and regardless of whether it's Constitutional. That they are so out of touch with voters needs and would resort to such disgraceful and blatantly anti-democratic tactics as the "Slaughter Rule" underscores the urgent need for real leadership in Washington.
